Set on the border of South Hams and Torbay the area offers fantastic opportunities for relaxing or active holidays whilst offering stunning natural beauty on land and out to sea.  The River Dart is nearby and is a constant companion through most of the area. The award winning sandy beach at Broadsands is a mile from Galmpton, with several other local beaches easily accessible and a little further afield many others to visit and explore.

There are many interesting and famous towns in the immediate area such as Darmouth, Brixham, Torquay and Totnes. The historic fishing town of Brixham is about 3 miles away. Dartmouth can be easily reached via car or passenger ferry from Kingswear (5 miles from Galmpton) where there is an abundance of things to see and do including markets and restaurants. The ancient market town of Totnes and the famous seaside resort town of Torquay are both about 6 miles.  Newton Abbot is approx. 10 miles with the cities of  Exeter and Plymouth approx. 25 miles.  Dartmoor National Park is easily accessed.  Click on Relevant Website page on the left for links to many local sites.

Magnificent coastal walks abound and within a short drive from the centre of Galmpton towards the river is the famous Greenway Gardens, once Agatha Christie's holiday home and managed by The National Trust.  Further down to the River Dart is a passenger ferry which operates on demand across to Dittisham where you can enjoy the village with its very popular Ferry Boat Inn,  overlooking the idylic views over the river.  Children enjoy ringing the large bell to summon the ferry for the return journey and the "crabbing" opportunities off the small pier.

The area is a Designated Area of Natural Beauty with many attractions such as  river cruises, steam railways, golf courses, and plenty of activities for children including many beaches, marine parks, steam railways, Paignton Zoo, GoKarts, etc. For more details on these local activities and ferry rides, farm and vineyeard tours etc. click on the Relevant Website page.

For lucky dogs there are beaches nearby they can visit even during high season, May to September, and many doggie walks along costal paths to small coves.
